I am needing some advice on building an Athlon XP system from scratch. Best motherboard w/o sound or video on it? Video card? Sound card? Speakers? Memory?

Looking for an 1800+, mthrbrd with thermal protection, 512 mb ram, 40 to 60 gb harddrive, dvd drive, good soundcard, speakers and anything else you can think of. Trying to keep the cost below $1300 without monitor. Thanks....

Okay, first the motherboard. You say you want thermal protection on it, yet no onboard audio or video?

Here's a little system I've put together with prices from newegg.com.

OS: You can use what you want have right now, or you could get Windows XP home edition for around 100 American dollars.

TOTAL: $945.00 (945 American Dollars)

This price may be different depending on whether you get Windows XP or stay with your current OS (unless you already have XP).
I would recommend staying with your current OS, and saving money for the Radeon 9700, since you have 315 dollars leftover,
if you start saving, you should have enough to get a Radeon 9700.

Have any other questions, just ask!
