just thought i'd post a question. basically i am just wondering how many red orchestra players are out there and if you don't play it why not. with all the free weekends they have had i would expect some people to play it and like i say if you don;t i thought i would ask why not.
it really is a great game and if you aren't a noob and like good multiplayer FPS games you really should give it a go.
You're right, it is a good game. Especially with the free weekends. I don't play it primarily because I'm tired of WW shooters, but it was a unique experience that is worth a go. Just give it some time to get used to the controls.
I love the hilarious moments like when you get your gun shot out of your hands, then you pull out your pistol shoot the guy in the leg, he goes down and shoots you in the leg causing 90% of your movement to be restricted, then both of you get blow up by a tank. ahhh memories.
I also like sprinting across no man's land and just before i reach a trench for cover getting my rifle shot out of my hand along with dropping all my ammo. do i go back for it or do I try to find a dead teammate to borrow something to shoot with?
One more funny story...
I'm gunning in a tank and taking on a russian tank. I'm one direct hit away from my tank going boom, but so is the other tank... only he can reload faster. So I figure i'm dead, but just as the russian tank fires for the kill shot a teammate of mine runs infront of my tank only to take a direct hit from the russian tank shell... exploding in a mass of limbs and red mist... I get off my shot after realoding and take out the red tank.
It's unpredictable moments like this that make the game one of my favorite. and in my mind the most realistic small scale war game to date.
good to see others enjoy it. i do enjoy the fact that there is no points system (AFAIK) involved in deciding whether you die or not. whilst getting a rifle shot to the chest might kill you it is not gauranteed.
for some reason i hope others will take it up as dod and the like, whilst good are just not up to RO's standards.
it takes quite a bit of skill as well, you have to lead a moving target accordingly and such.
I found it humerous on free weekends when people couldn't operate the bolt on their rifle because they're used to the bolt being operated automatically after one shot, as opposed to having click twice. once to fire and once to open and close the bolt.
i have a bad habit of double clicking when i don't want to eject the shell of whatever it is. i have to stop myself as when you want to fire then bayonet it can be annoying as bolting a rifle takes as long as some games do to reload a whole clip.
i don't want to bash other games as i can still play dod:s but it gets abit ridiculous especially the reloading times.
still, i was hoping to attract some forums users to the RO camp because it can never have too many good players. as long as the noobs stick with cs1.6 preferably i'll be happy.
I tried it on the free weekend thingy there the last day. Have to say I wasn't in any way immediately wowed. The game came across as clunky and graphically it's looks very old imo.
Admitedly 90% of my gaming time is taken up with Eve online and the remaining 10% to DoD:S so I've very little time for new games that don't immediately hook me.
I didn't give it much time however but I've no intention of buying this game from the hour or so play I gave it.
foolish mortal, RO takes a few hors to get used to and the graphics are based on a modified unreal engine although the textures are actually twice as detailed as the HL2 ones i believe.
still, it is not to everyone's liking but does take a few hours of play to get into it and comnig from something as slick if you will it does seem odd but that is dod not RO.
it is a shame you have no time for it as the gameplay is the best around once you know how to use its features.
Yeah, I won't outright say it's a shit game and god knows I let ppl know when I don't like something But nothing grabbed me about the game and I prefer more immediate and faster shooters and DoD:S (primarily avalanche map) provides that for me when I get sick of flying around in space.
