Oblivion settings

My system is slowing down and lagging in Oblivion with all the settings on high with a resolution of 1280x768 and max AA, is this normal with what I am running or are my expectations to high?


E6400 @ 2.4GHZ
8800GTS
2 Gig 533 DDR2
XFI SoundCard
WD 7200 PATA HD

Temps are good, mid 30's on the CPU, high 30's at load. I did not defrag my hard drive which I will do ASAP, will that make a big difference? My FPS dip below 30 in the outdoors, I just never expected to see them dip in the 20's with my system.

With that system you should be able to play it much higher than that. I play it on my old computer with a X1800XT and i get around 35 outside at resolutions of 1280x1024. your 8800gts should blow that out of the water. There is a patch somewhere out there that speeds it up some. also, try lowering the grass distance, as that is a major problem of the lag.

I think I found the problem, in the Nvidia settings I had everything maxed out, AA and everything. Then in Oblivion I also set all the video options to high. Once I changed the options in the Nvidia control panel to "application controled" things got a ton better without any video quality that I could tell.

yes, that AA probably slowed it down a ton. What is the resolution you are playing at now?

Still running at 1280x760 or whatever that widescreen resolution is. I have a 32" LCD TV I am using as my gaming monitor. The size is awsome however the trade off being the lower resolution. I find that with in game settings all maxed including AA the picture looks great, however I can only imagine how it would look on a Dell 30" with super high res. I just checked my BF2 FPS at they are right around 90FPS with all the settings on high, the key for me was not to mess with the Nvidia control panel and leave all the video options to the in game menus.

wow, that would be nice playing on a 32". I cant imagine what is it like either on a 30" monitor. I just dont have the $1000 dollars to spend on it lol.
