SiS648 - What is the 'true' story?

I've been reading everything I can find on the SiS648 chipset and every site I visit is leaving me bewildered. Does this board officially support DDR400? Tom's Hardware came out with the glowing article on it's support, but most other sites are only touting the support of DDR333. Anandtech even goes as far as implying that you won't be able to find DDR400 anytime soon, but newegg has it from Kingston and OCZ (whoever that may be). If it does in fact officially support DDR400, does the CAS of 2.5 work against it when compared to the CAS of 2 for the DDR333?

I'm looking to build a system next month, but don't know which street I should head down DDR400 or PC1066. If the DDR400 is within 2% of the performance of the PC1066, then it appears to be a smarter buy.

You see, DDR400 isn't an official standard yet, but it's available at most large computer stores. Yes, the SiS645DX and SiS648 both support DDR400 and they should run stably. Also, some people say that only DDR400 CL2.5 but decent Corsair, Samsung and maybe even KingMax can reach CL2 stably.

Corsair XMS PC3200(!) are good 400Mhz modules, but they don't come cheap.

The Tech Report numbers are about what I would expect to see, and they confirm the numbers that Toms Hardware reported. That other article you linked, I saw that earlier. Not sure what to think of it. It comes across like a guy who is defending his PC component purchases. Ok, you bought Intel. Now get over it.
