Yesterday i replaced my old D-link hubs(i do not know its model as it is too old) by a Dlink Switch DL-1024D and the server suddenly ccannot boot up, it always hangs in the startup can anybody helps?

well does the server boot with the switch out of the equation?

I replace the hub by switch by folllowing process

1) shut down the server
2)replace the hubs by switch
3) boot up the server

then the server hangs while booting up the window
i have try 5 times it still like that

Unhook the network cable from your server. Try booting it up. What happens?
Sounds like you're having a server problem and not with your switch.

but when i replace the switch by hubs it has no problem

i know that hub and switch are different but i do not understand why the server down if use switch but works fine if use hubs

oh boy, you have answered your own question, the switch is bad. i dont know why that would cause your server not to boot though.

nono the switch is not bad, i have test before replace hub by it, it works fine with my notebook and 2 desktop, but when connect to server server hangs

yes i'd say the same...... The way you described how you took everything apart and hooked it up with switch sounds correct to me, it shoulda hooked right up... YOU MIGHT... have a bad switch... you neva know..

What about if the MAC of teh Server has been copied by the Switch...
Wait im talking shi...


I've heard of this problem, but for damn i can't remmmber what caused it.

Something like the switch was sending a shut down command constantly and that it meant that it killed one machine.


Man im talking shi2 today :(

Will take a walk and see if it comes to me.

lol........ I'd Say see if you can just simply get a new swith and try it....... you never know you can be going crazy for nothing.. it might just be bad hardware. I't happened to me, before i got the linksys router i got this Netgear router and this thing just wouldn't see anything and it turned out it was bad.....
