i hav a 7600GS but for some reason q4 runs only at 60hz

Um, is v-sync on? Check the game and the graphics properties.

Hz = cycle/s

so a cycle = 1 frame i am assuming so your games runs at 60f/s

FYI did you know that the DOOM 3 engine, that runs quake, is caped at 60fps so you are getting max frame rates ...

Yes but you can force your refresh rate to like 85Hz or whatever your monitor can handle. There are some programs out there wich you can do that with, or maybe its in your drivers already.
