Father and son have their own coimputers, but only one printer (on father's
computer). They don't want to have their respective user accounts and
passwords on each others machines. Father's OS is XPh, son's is XPp

How to share that printer (from XPh, obviously)?

Set up a peer-to-peer network and share the printer.

Are the computers networked? If not then you cannot share the printer.

Both machines are attached a D-Link 504 (IIRC) to share a cable internet
connection. When first set up we tried file sharing, but that didn't work,
and the project was put on ice. Both machines are in the same workgroup,
have differing names etc..

But they can't be seen under Network Neighborhood?
