I HAV strange problem, open gl games like quake 4 and doom 3 run @ 60hz refresh rate at any re (1024*168,800*600),i tried enabling vsync but no go??. my spec is Pentium D,XFX 7600 GS,Benq V772,
WindowsXP's default screen refresh rate is 60Hz so no matter what you do to the resolution it will never get any higher than that. You need to tweak the maximum refresh rate for applications using the driver’s own tool to override refresh rates.
This was not a problem in Windows98 and became a big problem in WindowsXP with 3rd party utility’s having to do what the drivers could not till about three or four years ago when the graphics manufacturers integrated the tool in to their driver set.
It would be cool if there was an operating system specifically for gamers!
Careful what you wish for, you might just get it (vista ultimate edition).
Just because it is designed specifically for gamers doesn't mean that the gamers will appreciate this what with the DRM and the naggy pop ups, and the absurd pricetag, and the not even working with most games and such.

Can somebody explain what is in ultimate edition that makes it more for gamers than home premium? Or even home basic for that matter? Why games will run better under ultimate edition? Is it just MS marketing ploy to get money out of us, gamers?
