I have just set-up a wireless connection for my laptop, but everything is
painfully slow.
My ISP is Blueyonder Broadband, I use there 1.5Mb service through a Motorola
Surfboard modem. I have connected an Origo WBR-2200 11b wireless router
between my modem and PC, the PC is working fine. I have set-up and use a
TwinMos 802.11b WLAN card in the card bus slot of my laptop using Realteks
latest driver. The connection between laptop and router is no problem
although signal varies between low and excellent, Netstumbler shows a fairly
consistent signal strength. I have set the connection IP address as the
default address of the router and connection to the internet is fairly
reliable, but the speed is appalling. For example I downloaded a file on my
PC at the rate of approx 90KB/sec, the same file on my laptop at the same
time was approx 10KB/sec, added to which it kept seeming to hang, the PC
took about 1 min the laptop about 15.
My question is firstly is this normal, if not could it be either my router
or card that are at fault or could it possibly be improved with an
alteration of settings.
Can anyone help, please bear in mind I am a novice so plain simple language
would be appreciated.
