My DVD drive suddenly missing from Windows 7

I have a notebook DELL Inspiron 1420 that I already used for two years. I have used Windows 7 since last year. Before this, I never have problems with DVD drvive but last night it suddenly missing from device manager. I have tried everything but the DVD drive is still missing. Before the problem happens, I have burned a few DVDs and it works just fine. But right now, it can't even detect any CD or DVD. I've try to format my laptop but I fail to that since it can't even detect any CD or DVD. Please help me, I have surfing the internet trying to find its solutions but I didn't find any that would help.

  1. try right click on the left area of windows explorer(where the drives are listed, in a clear area) and select, Show All Folders, if this doesn't help, maybe the drive died
