So what is everyones initial impression of Spores? What do you think of the whole game being an online user created universe? When do you think it will really come out?

looks funnish.. I was never too big on tycoon/sims games, but this looks interesting, if you are talking about SPORE and not SPORES?

An online game that's offline, very interesting idea, and they seem to have a good grasp on how to handle it. I'm pretty sure they've got something in the works to prevent someone naming using bad words for their creatures and sending them out to other players. Maybe, maybe not. That'd be my only real concern if I were them. Doubt there's going to be any security issues with it, thankfully.

I'm thinking tomorrow or Friday I'm going to pre-order it. It looks good enough to do so. Then I just need to hope like hell it's Vista compatible. Should be though.

I wouldn't worry so much about the games being compatible with Vista. It is just the start up that has a few kinks but a few patches should take care of that and everything should work fine, and every game should work fine with Vista. I am pretty sure all the new games go through some testing (especially now Vista has been released) so that they are all compatible with Vista.

I would like to see Spore takes advantage on DX10.

The primary reason for upgrading to Vista is because of games. I don't think I'll be getting another computer for at least another three years, and I kept having the feeling that my primary computer was about to die on me.

Don't think Spores will need DirectX 10, but if it does, I'm glad I'm prepared for it.

What's the expected release date for this? As I said waaaay back when the first post on this came out that this looks fantastic and interesting but where is the game part.

I'm not condemning it but once the novelty factor on this game wears off I'm not sure what will be left.

I have the same feeling. The footage looks great, the idea appeals to me, but I have no idea how long it's going to be interesting.

Regardless, I'm gonna buy my copy as soon as it hits the shelves.

I will just wait until the demo. Or at least until a couple of my trusted sources review the game before i rush out to get it.

I already pre-ordered it a couple months ago. It's a Will Wright game. How could it go wrong?

*cringes at the thought of Sims Online*

EBGames lists it as 10/01/07. (MM/DD/YY)

That's exactly why i will wait for the demo first. I don't think this game will pull me away from Supreme Commander anyways :) , but when the demo comes i will give it a try.

Lol.... Spore: Swingers Party Night?

You know, I was thinking about Spore having expansion packs, and then the thought hit me, "So this must be why they're holding off so long. They don't really have any way (from what I could see) of having much of a reason to build expansion packs." Either that, or they're holding off until they can populate the game with enough creatures and events for each phase that people don't grow bored too quickly with the game.

I think that they are "holding off" for the reason of adding gameplay into it. So far, even though I am impressed with the game settings, I am not sure if I am impressed with the gameplay. It looks like there are 8 mini-games in the whole game and that's it, and I am not sure if it is right approach in principle. I mean I would probably play Cesar IV or Civ IV instead of simplified version of them.

That makes good enough sense to me, why they'd be holding off. I don't think it'll play like simplified versions of other games, myself. I think they're comparing the main aspects of each phase to other games to give people a rough idea how it will run, more or less.

The last question will be:

"Who is the best Dev in the world?"
A. Will Wright
B. Will Wrong
C. Orville Redenbacker
D. BaronMatrix

The graphics style of the game reminds me of one of the first DX8 games ever made, Giants: Citizen Kabuto (aren’t they making a sequel to that game?). Anyway… the game looks good, it could be worth it, I’m with Bigjock on this one I can see my self buying this one off the shelves as soon as it comes out.

I can see the simlairity, but I think Spore might be a bit more smoother.

Speaking of DX8, I keep wondering what the specifications to play the game are going to end up being. I noticed in one video Will Wright was using an Alienware laptop to run it. No idea if it was a standard or high-end model, and beyond that, whether there was any overclocking or not.

Considering how smoothe the game ran I would imagine the recommended specs would be close to what that laptop had to offer. CPU wise most people should be okay, but some might have issues if the graphics are up to snuff.

Name doesn't sound familiar, but Google enlightens me. Looks like this guy has been plenty busy over the years.
