hello.

i've got a USB ADSL modem and i want to share the connection over a network.

i know that for an ethernet ADSL connection its a good idea to use 2 NIC so that the internal network is kept separate from the internet.

if i use the USB modem and then connect to my LAN via my NIC does this achieve the same security benefits?

thanks.

chog.

yes, as long as you set up the software correctly (same as you would have to do if you had 2 PCI NIC's)

wow, quick reply ... thank u!

so i set up the USB modem to match my ISPs IP information, and then the NIC (and the rest of the LAN) to a set of private network IP addresses (198.162.......)
and run a software router on that machine?

yup. Sounds like you've got a handle on it.

I connect my cable modem via USB. Windows see it as a NIC.
