Just finishing reading the story in Tom's Newsletter about IDE. It mentioned ATA Serial drives at 150MB/s. It said "coming out this summer". Anyone know more about when we would really start seeing these drives and motherboards? Is it worth the wait? Thanks

No, the only advantage is thinner cables, it's not worth the wait.

for a single drive there will be no performance benefits, unless the serial ata interface is magically refined/optimised.

will be able to handle 2 HDD's better on one channel though due to higher bandwidth. (assuming they still use the 2 devices per channel approach)

Nope, one device per cable.

hmmm
so will we have 2 cables making up one IDE channel in a traditional fashion? or each cable being a seperate channel with the max number of channels increased from the default two?

Hehe, you have one cable for each channel for one device on each channel. You can use a router to get additional devices to operate on that channel. Probably you will have either four channels on your board, or two channels with two routers, or two channels. Or even one channel with a four port router onboard. Your guess is as good as mine.
