Does anyone know how to erase a rewritable disc when the message I get is that the contents files are read only. But you cannot change these properties in bulk and there are over 175 files.

Have you try to re-format the disc?

Assuming you are talking about a CDRW or DVDRW disc, then open your burning
software and under the disk tab (depending on the software you are using)
you should find the option to erase the disk. I use Roxio Easy CD Creator
and that is where erase is located.

Good luck
