Archived from groups: microsoft.public.windowsxp.newusers (More info?)
I have a lot of old videos both avi and mov media player has taken and just
applied those ridiculous things to them. These are old videos, how is it there
aren't codecs that wmp can use ? Or where can I get the codecs for wmp to use ?
I'm at the wmp9 site now, but so far nothing on it.

Try Divx, as some AVIs need that particualr codec to view them.

AVI files should be playable in Windows Media Player.
MOV files are proprietary format of Apple Quick Time. We do not have a
codec available for WMP9 for this format.

Just as a note, most AVI's on the web now are encoded with third party
codec's. To play these back in WMP you will first need to install a
DirectShow filter to decoding that specific codec.
