I am a first-year college student and I plan on building my own computer instead of wasting my money on brand name computers with crappy components. The only dilemna I am having is choosing a motherboard for the AMD XP +2200 i plan to put in it. I don't need any $800 SuperMicro chipset, but I would like something that is going to hold its own. Does anyone have advice on the best board for an AMD XP w/ddr2700/USB 2.0 compatibility. It would be greatly appreciated!

thanks- paul

I think MSI KT3 Ultra is the best Athlo mobo now. It is highly stable, good performer and inexpensive. Epox EP-8K3A+ is the fastest Athlon board, but you will not notice the difference between KT3 Ultra and 8K3A+. Stabilitiy of 8K3A+ is questionable.

There are two versions of KT3 Ultra. They are with RAID or without RAID. The RAID version has 5.1 sound, the standard version does not. Both have onboard Realtek audio chip.

MSI KT3 Ultra
MSI KT3 Ultra-ARU : RAID + 5.1 audio

Epox 8K3a+ is really good with its price and performance both. Go for it.
