Again with Nvidia's annoying naming schemes?

I just want Fermi... I was hoping that the 300 series would be a smaller form factor of the GTX200 series at least.

What is it about the concept of OEM only cards that's beyond your understanding?

A couple guys in the nvidia marketing department must have a bet going on who can come up with the lamest idea.

Just to clarify, they've rebranded the 8000 series yet again, right?

Well... I guess they probably get most of thr profit from the OEM market... now they have "new" card for OEM to sneak them into the retail desktop/laptops with just a little "upgrade" from their older generation products. So the regular customer who buy computers from the Bestbuy or HP/DELL/.... website.. so the regular customers who buy computers from the Bestbuy, Walmart, or even HP/DELL/... websites... will be happy about their "new" generation graphic card inside PC.... so everybody is happy......

but... us...>_

So they're releasing the 8800 GT again? I mean 9800 GT...wait no, GTS 250? Oh right, they're all the same...Now they're just giving the SAME core yet another new name.

I wonder if (going forward) they are going to use the odd hundreds (100, 300, 500, etc) as OEM only and release regular cards in the even hundreds (200, 400, 600, etc)

I don't want the ATI Radeon 5970 to be dethroned! I just spent a fortune on it.

Don't worry pal. If those Fermi are the new champs, then you're still on the top three for some time.

Nvidia please...do not feed the troll. Are you holding back? First with some random Geforce PC with 2 GB of RAM and a 9800 card, now you're using de 300-ish playground for the OEM camp and we still believe that you're using the G92 somewhere in the middle of those cards.

Let's see with what they come up with before March 26. Prediction: Geforce PC with 4 GB of RAM and a 300 series (oh wait..that's...ugh..nerver mind) or Geforce GTX 290 refreshed with 45 more CUDA cores and still 55 nm ( as 285).

ok nice question. Please anyone correct and quote me if wrong.

Originally, Geforce 9800 GTX took a core reduction and was called 9800 GTX+ (the original was 65 nm and the refreshed core is 55 nm). Afterwards, they take the 9800 GTX+ and rename it to GTS 250. By the same time we had the 8800 GT renamed to 9800 GT (maybe some tiny changes). Take the core of the GTS 250 and create crippled versions. That when the GT 2xx enters the scene. We have GT 210, 220, 240. I think there are GS 210 or something like that.

And now, we have the same line of GT 2xx renamed once again in 3xx (particular note on the GTS 240) for OEM purposes. Moreover, it follows the trend of renaming and a couple of small changes.

Summarizing 8800 series -> 9800 GTX and 9800 GT
9800GTX -> 9800 GTX+

9800 GTX+ -> GTS 250

GTS 250 -> GT 210/220/240 and GS 210/220

GS/GT 2xx -> GS/GT/GTS 2xx

( Not so sure about the GS category, but they exist.

In the end, yes, 8800 series or G92 derivatives are the ones lurking around.

Meh. I don't like it, but as long as people continue to buy it because it's renamed with a higher model number (still remember people "upgrading" to a GTS250 from a 9800GTX or 8800GTS 512) I can't fault nVidia for doing it. After all, I'm guessing Femi wasn't built with making cheaper derivative parts in mind so it will be some time before nVidia puts out cheaper DX11 boards. Oh well.

I can easily fault nvidia for doing it. That's called ripping people off. If you know it's the same that's different.

But most people are only capable of seeing a model name and making guesses based on it. (if they're even that comfortable with computers...)

i guess the 300 is a marketing scheme so that the 400's will have high prices. i mean, a 300 entry level vs a 400 entry level? its stupid to have a price match vs your own products ryt? i was hoping to have an htpc solution from nvidia and now this?
