I need some advice, I have a Gigabyte 8IHXP (850E) and would like to know what is the best way to go as far as Hard drive and CD-ROM is concern; Is a SCSI combo the smart way or should I go the ATA way, thanks in advance for your comments…ALEX

Well SCSI would be the fastes way if you also get a fast SCSI drive... but this will cost you a lot more money.

For most things ATA works just fine... you can also use RAID 0 to connect two HDs which eachother to increase performance.

I be willing to get both SCSI units. Would you please suggest CD_ROM and HD SCSI units to get the most out of this Motherboard?.Will I need an Adaptec interface card for this setup?...Alex

Your board only has ATA ports on it, so you have to buy a SCSI card.
I'm sorry but I can't help you any further with choosing the products as I don't know much about SCSI.

PCI is limitted to 133MB/s, so an Ultra 160 card is more than enough for your system. I like Adaptec cards. Of course, I'm perfectly willing to sell you my three channel Utra 80 RAID server card, which will operate with Ultra 160 performance in two channel RAID mode.
