These days THG published some interesting thing about the newer chipsets.
As you stated, right now kt400 is maybe the fastest K7 chipset. However, I think there's a great chance nForce2 to change this picture, but I'm not sure.
Regarding PIV's chipsets, I always say that the fastest and the most stable chipset is also made by Intel. Via evaluated a PIV chipset with DDR-400 support (isn't this chipset illegal too???), but it still can't outperform 850E.
Of course, prices of 850E-based mobos with RDRAM are... but who cares???
