I have $30 and would like a game to play over spring break. I'm looking at BF2 or 2142, but any suggestions will be heeded. I'm bored out of my mind and want a game that will play smoothly at 1280x1024 on my 19".

I have:
E6600
7600 GT
1 Gig Wintec Ampo 667 @ 800
Running on XP MCE
That's really everything important I think.

I can play the demos for both BF games, so I think those are clear. Sorry I'm not allowed to play "M" games at this moment in my life which sucks. Thanks!

Really? People keep saying the physics, graphics and gameplay are better in 2142. Judging from the demos, I lean both ways for different reasons, but haven't played the actual games. Which has a better single-player? That is really all I will be doing, as my internet is pretty slow from experience (or maybe it was just the servers) Is 10Mbps fast enough for online play?

Oh, and I have a question about the expansion packs. Should I get the special edition w/special forces or get another pack later?

You do know that Bf2 doesnt have singleplayer? Well you can play a multiplayer map with the bots but their AI sucks, I they run you over if you get out of the way quick enough :D BF2142 cannot be played at all in singleplayer. What type of game do you want?? Other good FPS games include:

rainbow six vegas
Armed Assualt-good online
GRAW2-which comes out in the next couple of days I think

Okay guys thanks I just went out and bought BF2 w/special forces at Best Buy for 30 bucks! I'm hoping it will satisfy my inner shooter! :D Beginning installation now...

Oh yeah! Why didn't you guys tell me this game absolutely rocks?! I am kind of annoyed that every part of the game is capture the flag, single and multiplayer, but either way I get in all the FPS action I've been looking for! I just love hurling C4 everywhere! (I haven't done this online so don't worry I won't get banned)

As for the servers I just sort them by latency and choose one in green near the top.

I just played special forces for a while and man that is pretty sweet. I like the ATVs and remade guns, as well as the night vision and other stuff. The lame thing is that every time I play it says "page file minimum too small" and I increased it to 500MBs but it still says it every time.
