Terrible game. Looks and sounds great but where is the fun going out and shooting some ships over and over again and nothing you do affects the outcome.

Is it here I've had this argument before or another forum? Can't remember. Anyway, I'm gonna spoil the game for everyone now. Germany lose. So there.

You dont seem to understand the point of a simulator, the outcome of the war is of no consiquence, your victory is survival. And yes you had the argument with me here <--- link

Anyhow i love SH III and the torpedo firing solutions can be a bit difficult to get down at first, but as a tip id tell you not to use the periscope to take a speed reading of a ship, rather to stalk it for a longer time and take at least 3 readings with your scope at equal intervals and mark it on the map and then calculate the speed yourself, it takes longer but you get a much more accurate result.

 Quick (albeit stupid)question, when you pull up your onscreen map,the circle with the line through one side, does the line represent where you are going,or coming from?I may have to take a 40 hour a week course on the finer points of this game(having fun with it however).

Thanks.

The line shows your wake pretty much. You might want to check out http://www.subsim.com/index.php for more info.

Yes I own the game. One of my greatest thrills in gaming came when I made a successful bow shot on a Destroyer and as it was sinking..it was listing to starboard while coming towards me while i was submerged at periscope depth. I just stayed at the periscope and observed the thrill of the moment. I swear...the ship narrowly missed hitting my sub...in fact...I heard the upper structures of the sinking ship actually hit my sub. I waited to see myself sinking..but stayed afloat and seaworthy. Amazing moment! Would have been even better had I saved the replay :(. Yeah...SHIII...great game!

 Cool,I got a lucky shot (stern tube)on a destroyer that was dead astern of me and coming fast,I hit him,he kept coming and finally sunk stern first when it looked like I was about to have my conning tower run over.

I remember my own favorite moment being a raid on Scapa Flow. Got in through the westers passage and surfaced behind the small island a little bit east of the entryway to wait for nightfall. After that i silently creeped towards the harbor to find two auxilliary cruisers and an Illustrious class aircraft carrier there. Fired two torpedoes at the carrier, then one at each of the cruisers and started to make my escape towards south. I lowered my periscope and listened for detinations on the hydrophone to confirm my hits only to come to a creeking halt in an anti submarine net. Apparently some destroyers patroling the port noticed that and came looking for me in the shallow waters of scapa flow so i botomed by sub and waited, my good luck held and they didnt find me, but looking up through the periscope underwater and seeing a destoryer run right over me was exiting. The rest of my escape was uneventful but it did get me the Knights Cross.

These are the moments that make gaming satisfying and worthwhile. Grats on winning the "Cross". :)
