Linksys WSB24: not "feeling the love"

I just picked up a "slightly used" Linksys WSB24 signal booster from
eBay. I was expecting great things from this "illegal" device.
However, since installing, it's brought me nothing but pain - I see my
AP's signal, but can't grab an IP, or the IP that I grab is out of the
normal range (192.168.1.x), something starting with 169.254.x.x...

At any rate, has anyone else had problems with this little beast?
Amid the glowing reviews that I found on various newsgroups I read
something about certain Linksys "b" APs not working too well with the
WSB24. My AP/router is a BEFW11S4 v2 with firmware ver 1.45.10.
