Halflife 2 no internet

is there anyway i can play halflife 2 with out any internet connection? I dont have the internet and I keep getting an error message "need steam.dll". Can anyone help me? Why the F*** do they require internet? Thats so STUPID!! It just makes me so angry, WORDS CANT EVEN DISCRIBE HOW PISSED I AM!!! :x

Yeah it's a balls but it is written on the package that a net connection is required.

Anyway take your pc to a mates, get your copy validated, disconnect from the net and ensure you can play the game in offline mode and you're away. Otherwise you're gonna have to take it back.

(Please note there are apparently ways to circumvent steam but again you'll be needing the net to download the bits and bobs and it would be easier to just take the pc to a mates to validate the copy.
