Ok, I've seen soooooooo many people who have, lately, been talking about how miserably the PS3 has been selling and how much better the Xbox 360 sold when it came out, so I decided to do a little research on this topic and I've come to an interesting conclusion.

Looking at various sources, I am relatively certain that over the the past 15.75 months, the Xbox 360 has sold (in the US and Japan, to compare oranges to oranges since it would be unfair to compare worldwide sales to US and Japan sales) about 4,830,091 units and, averaging between the US and Jap. launch days, it has been out for roughly 481 days.

4,830,091/481=10,041.77

for the PS3,
1651583/133=12417.92

So, from what I see, day for day (in the US and Japan) the PS3 has actually outsold the Xbox 360 by about 24%.

this is just my 2 cents

p.s. if anybody sees a serious flaw in my logic please tell me.

Well unless you link to where you're getting your figures from you can pretty much say what you want.

For example my figures 133394857391223442/2333.4532123 tell me that the commodore 64 is outselling the lot of them.

Yes there is a serious flaw in your logic.

The run rate will be greatest at launch and then decline daily from there. Therefore, the only accurate measure would be to compare the first
133 days of PS3 launch to THE FIRST 133 days of Xbox 360 launch.

The units sold for Xbox after 133 days will doubtlessly drag down the Xbox average.

Even then, you must contend with other variables (e.g. seasonality, initial inventories, etc).

Another flaw is this.

The XBox 360 is an American console which historically have done horribly in the Japanese market.

If you truly want an apples to apples comparison, look at the numbers during the same timeframe (say the first 100 days of sales) in only north america.

The XBox 360 is just now starting to get any reasonable sales in Japan.

The fanboi's care. It's the same everytime a console is released the fanboi's feel the need to start spouting figures at each other. I've no idea why though. I think it makes them feel better.

I think people just want to be reassured that they didn't blow $600 on an unpopular system... just enjoy the PS3. Sure, it may be a disappointment to the company... but there will be plenty of games and support.
