does anyone know why the game would run smooth when you start it and about 30 min into the gameit slows way down and then a simple restart of the game fixes the problem for a while longer?

It sounds like either your video card or CPU is overheating

i have no idea, it is just like that. some people say it is because it draws tons of stuff that isn't in view so even though you ain't looking at something it still draws it. the longer you play the more stuff it keeps in memory or something like that.

all i know is that it does happen. you are not alone. try the actual oblivion forums for a more detailed respone if no one esle answers.

in my game it does not happen all the time but sometimes it will just slow down.

I doubt it does that on all machines. I usually play with fraps going and it doesn't slow down after awhile. Sometimes I'll be playing 3-4 hours and I never notice any slow down. I would check your system to make sure there aren't any problems.

Seems like a disk cache or memory problem. I'd second Strangestanger best place to look is in the official forums. If there is no solution at least file a bug report. Sometimes the developers do try to fix things.

whats you're rig? CPU, GPU, and amount of RAM?

I remember a long time ago I had this problem with city of heroes on an old old athlon (name I cannot remember it was that old) a graphics card I cannot remember (maybe integrated?) and what i do remember was i had 256mb of ram. It starts out fine at first then it gradually becomes laggy, and a restart is needed.

i later found out it was because of the memory refresh needed for the ram. So i just bought another 512 mb stick of ram and gave it 768mb of ram and it took a lot longer for it to slow down.

So most likely its because you don't have enough ram for it?

Are you overclocked at all? Oblivion is pretty intense. I know before I got my current VGA cooler and was working on overclocking I thought I was stable. It played all my games and also benched fine. Then I played BF2142 and it rebooted on me several times. I ended up cranking my settings down. That was just an example though, could be memory or CPU if you are OCing anything.
