TwitchGuru caught an advanced screening of the new film "Grindhouse," which opens this weekend. Editors Rob Wright and Travis Meacham present their takes on the two-part film in a double feature review.
your post is just another example of someone just being an jerk in a forum without knowing what they are talking about. The article was posted in twitchguru's page. If you would take your head out of your ass long enough to look at that site, you would know it deals very little with computer hardware
Ass lars4life said it is relevant since it is a part of twitch guru and not the main hardware section. Still it's sad that Twitchguru seems to get the better articles nowadays
No offence intended Rob, just wish there was more hardware not less twichguru
No offense taken, I guess. We're not trying to tick anybody off, especially long time THG readers, by doing movie reviews and other things. We just thought stuff like this would be good for TwitchGuru and would help broaden the appeal for THG as a whole. We wouldn't write about comics, movies and stuff if there wasn't an interest from readers. And we're not going to review "Driving Miss Daisy" or "The Purple Rose of Cairo," but we did want to cover certain films that we felt had a cross-over appeal for technology aficionados and gamers, and "Grindhouse" fell into that category (along with "300" and "TMNT" ).
As for more hardware articles, trust me, they're coming. We've been busy with some rather important stuff here at THG, and there should be many big changes and improvements coming in the near future.
Now, back to Grindhouse: has anyone else seen this movie yet? Seriously, Travis and I need to discuss this with people.

I think you misunderstood me. I rather enjoy your work. My peeve was that the Hardware section was lacking of late both in quantity and quality.

That's great!!! One can only hope.

It is not out here yet. I plan on seeing it but I guess that I could agree with your review enev b4 watching it. IMHO Tarantino is highly overrated whereas Rodriguez is a genius (Desperado is one of my favourite movies )
Overall, it was fun but honestly, I didn't feel like either part of it was great. Planet Terror was definitely the better half, though a bit... too over the top at times. I realize that was what it was going for but... a bit too much for my tastes.
Deathproof was, for lack of a better term, a wreck. I understand what Tarrentino was going for, but it was the wrong place for it. And not particularly good at it to boot. It was definitely Tarrentinoesque. I wouldn't say it was unenjoyable, but it just failed to live up to even mediocre expectations.
As you said, the car chase was good and the first collision was brilliantly done, but the movie spent entirely too much time outside of the vehicles.
The best characters in the whole thing were Zoe Bell (as herself) and stuntman Mike. Everyone else was pretty shallow and uninteresting. Had the characters been interesting enough or had there been any decent foreshadowing during the dialogue, it would have been much better, or if it had just spent more time in the vehicles...
Honestly, the best part of the whole thing was the preview for Machete. Thanksgiving was amusing as well.
I've heard that they plan on doing a full take on Machete in the DVD release as a special feature. That alone might make me want to buy the DVD. All in all though, I have no interest in seeing the main movie again. I just didn't think it was good enough to warrant a second viewing, especially not in the theater.
I watched Grindhouse last weekend and I can honestly say, it was one of the best movies I have seen in the theather, I would say definately top 10, maybe even top 5. That being said, I am pretty much the exact demographic this movie was targeted to. I love zombie movies, the cheesier the better, and Troma-esque films.
My friends and I actually get together once a week (Wednesdays) and rent the worst new movies we can find (this week was "Dead and Deader" ). We try to keep in the genre of Horror / Action, but sometimes a truly awful drama gets in there. I have probably seen every Segal movie made (and there is seriously a new one at least every 2 months or so).
I would have to say that I liked the Rodrigues movie more (the zombie one), but Tarentino's was pretty good too. All I know is that I can't wait for "Hobo With A Shotgun" and the other previewed films, I really hope they actually make a couple of them.
BTW, I didn't actually read the review, sorry, too busy ATM.
Since Grindhouse is kind of a flop at the box office, there is talk amongst the suits of splitting the films up and running them separately. I think this is a terrible idea. While I enjoyed Planet Terror much more than Death Proof, a lot of what I enjoyed was the whole experience of it. It just won't be the same without the double-feature and all the fake trailers.

You guys that have seen it, what do you think?
Definitely keep it together. The purpose of the movie is completely lost if you split them up. The artistic vision largely vanishes, and the pieces are worth less separately than they were together.
