Well well, I went out and got myself STALKER today, and guess what? I absolutely can't play it. My system isn't the hottest anymore, but it's certainly not completely derelict:

Pentium D @ 3.66Ghz
Asus P5N32 SLI Deluxe
1 GB DDR2-667
1 WD74GB Raptor
2 WDAAJS in RAID 0
7950GX2 @ stock
OCZ 700W

No matter which settings I select, the game runs at less than 5fps. I've tried disabling all dynamic lighting, setting everything to minimum quality, and dropping the resolution down to nothing. I disabled EAX. I installed the patch. All my drivers are the latest available. Anyone got any input for me??

whilst true that stalker eats up systems i cannot think why it would run so bad.

are you forcing anything through the gfx drivers at all?

have you got any anti virus firewall software that might be interfering with it.

have you tried a basic defrag. it don't run too hot on my own system but it ain't that bad.

finally have you tried a fresh install of the game?

Nope, nothing being forced through the drivers.

Defragged it immediately after installation as always.

No anti-virus or firewall running when I play.

It's got me pretty much stumped. I guess I'll try a re-install, but I can't imagine why this would be required considering I just installed it hours ago.

Try reinstalling XP completely, it SHOULD run pretty good on a GX2

Well, I was able to find something to fix it. Now I'm running it at 1280X1024 at high settings around 40-50 fps. Not too shabby. Here's the link for anyone else having problems, thanks for the help those who've posted.
