4500 duplex question

Forum Computer Brands : HP 4500 duplex question

Archived from groups: comp.sys.hp.hardware (More info?)

Hello, we have two 4500n printers on our network that work fine but the 4500
that has been installed for 4 years has a duplex option in the print
settings in windows but the new printer does not.
How can I tell if the new pinter is capable of duplex printing and where can
I get a driver that allows duplex printing if it is posible

Moogle-

Take a look through the setup booklet that told how to unpack the printer,
remove security tape, install the cartridge, et cetera. See if there is
instructions on installing a duplexer module. If you no longer have it, an
Adobe .PDF copy of the booklet may be downloadable from HP, and may also be
included on the installation CD.

If the setup instructions do address the duplexer, it may also give the HP part
number of the module you need to order.

If there is no mention of a duplexer module, it is possible that the printer
has all the mechanical hardware needed for duplex operation, but does not have
the circuitry required to activate it. That appears to be the case with my HP
4600. As far as I can tell, it will cost close to $1000 to purchase a new
"formatter" PC Board that supports duplex on the 4600.

Do you know any printer technicians? If you can look at a copy of their HP
4500 service manual, the printer's parts list may identify which parts are
different between the duplex and non-duplex versions.
