Looking for drag&drop to a CD-R/W option

Have an HP Pavillion with WinXP that includes their Writer 400c drive.
I'd like to backup data to a CD-R/W (not CD-R) thru the use of my apps
backup routines. However, I find that these apps do not recognize the
R/W unless the drive is configured with a 3rd party app, such as Sonic's
DLA.

Well, I tried the DLA route and, while it worked fine for my purposes --
allowed drag&drop as well as allowed the apps to backup to the R/W, it
corrupted the Control Panel so that it would "not respond" to any of its
functions. The only way I could get rid of the DLA install was to do a
system restore to a time before the DLA was installed. I then tried a
different route, downloadinf an HP-specifc DLA patch from HP and
installed it. The same thing happened: it again corrupted the Control Panel.

After 2 consecutive system restores and several hours wasted, I gave up
on DLA.

Is there another app I can obtain that will allow XP to recognize R/W
disc and allow a simple drag&drop to them?

Every CD-Writing suite has a program analogous to DLA. In the Roxio
suite, it is called Direct-CD (in the newer ones it is called Drag to
Disk). In the Nero Suite, it is called InCD. It is critical that you
not have more than one of that type of program installed. I have used
Roxio but not Nero and have never had any problems. However the cost
is close to $100 for the suite which has a lot that you don't want.
You might be able to find the Basic version of either suite for about
$20 or so (They are only supposed to be sold with drives but I have
seen them standalone).
