we have dial up, with peoplepc. three of us in home have hotmail email.mine is the default.frustrating for other two as they try to send things to someone and myemail comes up as the default,and they don'thave my password.i have tried to see if i can make the peoplepc default, but not on the list of defaults.miss our outlook express..wind.7 has caused so many obstacles.i have not heard of this thunderbird email.do you download it? does it become your default email? suggestions please. we are not experts on computer.just beginners.thanks..

It sounds to me like your problem isn't the e-mail, it's the fact that all three of you are using the same account on your computer. If you give everyone different Windows accounts then they should all be able to customize their own e-mail.

agree, control panel > user accounts and family safety add or remove accounts and add another two (perhaps even three) and set up each account seperately.

The alternative is to set up rules so that the emails are directed to different folders, one for each person. This won't be a great fix but it should work.

we all three do have separate hotmail accts. when they try to send something to their friends, my acct. is the default..

I'm not talking about separate hotmail accounts, I'm talking about separate Windows accounts. The kind of account that you use when you first start up your computer and select your username and enter a password before you can do anything else.

The problem is likely because hotmail stores cookies on your computer which contain information about the defaults. If you use the same Windows account, you're all using the same cookies and therefore gets the same defaults. If you use separate Windows accounts, everyone will get their own cookies and their own defaults.

go to Start, Control Panel, User Accounts, click on add a account, enter a name and give them permission, admin or standard, do this for all of you, close Control Panel, click on start, the shut down button on the bottom right has a little arrow next to it, click the arrow and select Switch User, wait, the first time you open each user takes a little bit, the desktop will open, click on Internet Explorer and go to your hotmail, enter hotmail user and password to gain access, after that it will remember each of you seperatly

The easiest way is to just get into the habit of logging out of Hotmail when you're finished using it. That way everybody has to explicitly log in using their own Hotmail account when you go to the site.
