I have an Octopus IEEE 802.11b WLAN Card (see a picture here
http://www.success-hk.com/sc_html/ [...] ard.htm#).
I have been reading about making your own cantenna and one of the
steps is to connect a pigtail to the wireless card. However, by
looking at the picture of a pigtail and its connecters, I can't figure
out how I would connect the small end to my wireless card, since it
has no holes. Am I just unable to use a cantenna with my particular
wireless card?

By the way, I'm using the instructions at
http://www.turnpoint.net/wireless/cantennahowto.html regarding how to
make a cantenna.

Thank you for any help you can provide!

I couldn't find any detailed specs on the Octopus card, but it appears
that it does not have an external connector. If this is the case, you
have a tough row to hoe to connect a cantenna. It would probably be
easier to buy another card that has an external connector. Or you could
try making a reflector for your card, might boost the signal some.

This link, almost to the bottom, describes your problem:

Thanks for the help! After checking out the seattlewireless.net link,
I don't think I am going to be able to do the hack they describe. It
looks like removing the plastic on mine might be too destructive, so
it appears my only option is get another one with a connector outlet.
Thanks, again!

If you are looking for a new purchase, my testing over the weekend shows a
DLink DWL-122 mini-usb in a can to be better than an Orinoco in the same
can for signal strength. The mini-USB seems more directional, and
sensitive to positioning, but at its peak, it is better and cheaper than an
Orinoco with a pigtail.
