Laserdisc 101

Hi,

I posted a different thread with one question, because I wanted I didn't want to add this and have to go combing through posts.

I'm a first-time laserdisc owner. I was wondering if you veteran laserdisc owners can give me any pointer or tell me things I need to know, other than the obvious(keep LD in sleeve when not in use, stack vertically, hold by hole and edge). The biggest reason I got an LD player was to archive them to DVD. So, any pointers on that would be greatly appreciated.

The things I REALLY want to learn are:

-About "Laser Rot" and how to spot it
-Handling discs other than what I said
-Cleaning discs
-Tips on getting the best transfer to DVD(I'm using a Daewoo DVD Recorder)
-Best places to buy Laserdiscs
-Differences between CAV and CLV(other than one's longer than the other)
-Advantages and Disadvantages of said formats
-Information on Early(1978-1984) laserdiscs(i.e. Discovision and Magnetic Video)
-General Thing I absolutely need to hear.
