Ive got a Gigabyte GA-8ihxp w/ a p2.53 and 1gig (4x256mb) rambus 1066...

The rambus doesnt work at all - it has tons of memory errors - ive set the FSB to 133.33 and the memory to 1066 but it just doesnt work at all - ive tried 2 types of rambus 1066 memory in both 512 and 1gig configs. I am using the F4 revision bios...

Any ideas? I see these boards tested in places so I assume they got them working correctly at 1066 memory speed....

Thanks much.

Very strange, perhaps a power issue? Did you try raising the VDIMM (should be called VRIMM) setting in BIOS?

Not that this would be a fix, but have you tried stepping the memory down to PC800 and seeing what happens? What brand and type of memory are you using (ECC/non-ECC)?

it runs fine - i can overclock to about a 450mhz bus...but that is WELL short of a 533 one =)

This is killing me - Anyone?

They tested your memory with 800mhz Rdram. You need to take out the cmos battery. Then go into bios and choose the optomized settings for bios, and f10 to save. I think that will work. Let me know. I have same board. Its an awesome board. GET THE ati 9700 with it!!! An amazing graphics card.

Ahhhhhhhhhhh...that could be the problem. Theres alot of ram out there that is 800mhz, and they are passing it off as 1066mhz. I have the kingston Rdram. Everything is working fine with my system. Make sure you seat the ram all the way in the rimm socket.

For the GA-8ihxp to work properly with 1066 memory the BIOS setting needs to FSB = HARDWARE and MEM TYPE = AUTO. I struggled with this one when I initially built my system. If you can't get system to run this way then you most likely got a bad RIMM. Any other combination of settings for FSB and Memory will result in cache transfers slowed down from 25GB/S to 2GB/s seriously affecting system performance everywhere. If you reset bios to optimized defaults it will set to this mode.

I would also reccomemend that you do a google search for memtest-86 and DL this SW. It will allow you to create a boot disc that will verify your RIMM at full system speed. Of the initial 4 8/256 1066 Kingston RIMM I got it found 2 bad ones. Since RMA'g and replacing have had no problems.

!!!

i was getting a few crashes so i ran memtest86 for a few passes - im getting errors =/

Ok
Gigabyte 8ihxp w/f6 bios (what bios ya'll on? i tried f3 and f4 too)
Intel p4 2.53
4x256 kingston 1066 non ecc memory
460w power
ATI Rage 9700pro
2 ata 133 drives in raid

im currently doing the test with nothing plugged in - just floppy, video, memory, processor...

The everything is set to optimized defaults after pulling the cmos...it is recognizing 533/133...
Any ideas?

Ive tried the memory in 2x256 both pairs and still get the errors...

They are in test 5 and 6...

Help!

Thanks Much!

I am running Bios F4. It is needed to get USB to work.
Since RDRAM work in pairs in order to isolate if one is bad it can make both look bad. In order to isolate I would reccomemnd that you come up with scheme to mark each rimm 1 through 4. Then put your CRIMMS in slot 3 and 4 and start running MEMTEST-86 on successive pairs of RIMM in slot 1-2. ie RIMM 1&2 , 1&3, 1&4, 2&3, ... etc. If you can not
get any combo to run clean then maybe it is the i850 on mobo.
If you call Kingston customer service they will cross ship replacement RIMM to you. I ended up finding problems with 2X of the orignel 4 shipped to me and replacing all 4 with ones they cross shipped me.
