When ever I load the game, all I see is a black screen but I can hear music. It's v1.0 and whenever I try to update it says the version I have is incompatible with the update.

make sure you download the right patch, i think there are a few patches for different countries versions.

make sure you get the full UK retail version 1.08.

F.E.A.R. 1.08 FULL UK patch

might be big, so expect a long download time.

Failing that: unistall and reinstall and patch, then reboot your PC.

I know this is the lamest oldest advice people give on message boards but I've had that happen to me 5 or 7 times during the time I've been gaming and it's been a driver problem every single time.
