Why would bios misreport CPU calculation?

I set the bios a certain divider to end up being say an Athlon XP 1800+ and it always seems to come out below what I set it at... I tried the maximum setting for the ratio and it set the clock speed way down... what might cause this? It's an Iwill XP333R mobo with an Athlon stock 2000+ CPU with the latest bios for the mobo.

Thnx!

Unless You've Unlocked the L1 bridges on your Athlon, it will ignore any changes to the multiplier. an XP 2000+
should be set at:
Multiplier 12.5
FSB 133Mhz

This gives 12.5x133=1666 Mhz. This is the correct rated speed for an XP2000+.

You would only be able to overclock it (if not unlocked)
by increasing the FSB value e.g.
133Mhz x 12.5=1666Mhz
134Mhz x 12.5=1675Mhz
135Mhz x 12.5=1687Mhz
.
139Mhz x 12.5=1737Mhz (~XP2100+ speed)

But this will also increase the speed of your RAM, and probably the PCI/AGP buses too, which will OC all your add-on cards/Gfx card, so if any of those can't cope with increased speed, the system will crash.

System appears rock stable...

it is unlocked via the L1 bridges, my roomate seems to have master the technique to unlocking athlon cpus :).

It's odd that it misreports it when I try to set it... it is that way now, I have it set to being an 1800 something MHZ cpu, but its only running at 1750mhz, which is fine, it's running... just doesn't make sense. :(

Also... there is no 12.5 ratio on my motherboard! :(

When I set it to 13, it bumps it down to 12.5 but it just doesn't say... something like that.
