I have a 7800 gt and whenever i play counter strike source my game starts off fine at around 60-80 fps but after about 20 minutes of playing it goes down to 20-35 and wont come back up till i restart steam.
My temperatures seem to stay around 76-78 after gaming for a while and idle around 50. I am currently running it in vista ultimate and i had the same problem in xp and i have updated the video drivers to the latest and tried all different sorts of driver versions but to no avail.
Any help you guys can offer i really appreciate. Thanks in advance.
Check to see if you have Vsynk enabled in either the game or the drivers settings, if you do have it enabled then disable that setting and run the game again to see if the problem is gone. If it still persists and you have over 1GB of memory then there is most likely a problem with some software running in the background with a memory leak.
Actually I experienced a similar problem with any rig running Vista. Steam and Vista compatibility right now just isn't that great and it runs bad on just about anything. My roommates computer is top of the line and it still cries trying to run css on vista. Dunno what the deal is with it but they sorely need to get it fixed, my CAL team suffers without him, lol.
