Hi all,
I just bought a ECS k7s5a, and an Athlon xp1700, I threw it together last night.
Everything is fine except for:
when PC goes through post, after the memory test etc, it gets a stop error,
"Cmos memory wrong"
press f1 to continue or f2 to run setup

I tried clearing cmos with the jumper, and I removed the battery and re-installed.
I get the same error, but sometimes it will also add the message in the error:

"Cmos battery low"
"Cmos memory is wrong"

Any ideas????

Thanks
Rick Z

Hey R,

Try replacing the mobo battery with a brand new one. I have had one dead battery with this same mobo. Good Luck

Are all(recent) mobo batteries the same???
the reason I replaced this mobo and processor is because it got surged by a lightning jolt,
I still have a battery from the old mobo. will that one work ???
Dont know what the old one was, but it had a AMD slot A 700 mhz on it.......

Thanks,

Rick Z.

Hey R,

Pull out the old & new batterys & compare them. If they are the same battery give it a try..........if it doesn't work, it doesn't prove that the old battery is good or bad though. Better to buy a whole new battery at Radio Shack.

funny..... I checked the battery from the old mobo, and they are both the same. I couldn't get to the nearest Radio Shack or similar store to buy a new battery.
so, I put the older battery in.... I got the same error message, but then hit f1 to continue, and the message hasn't come up again. I think perhaps it was the cmos battery. I am going to keep an eye on it.
I still have to format and reload the OS and software on the old drive. (30 gig maxtor) I had a small drive laying around so I formatted, and threw the OS on that drive, to see if I could retrieve any data from the 30 gig. but It shows no directories, or files.
strange, I thought that I might be able to view any files from the old drive as long as I had an OS up and running.
I had planned on getting the CD burner in the machine up and running, and then burning anything that the customer needed from the old drive to CD. but the old drive doesn't show anything.
Also strange.
The bios see's the drive correct, (maxtor model blah, blah, 30.7 gig)
But, Windows ME sees the drive as two partitions, each 9.7 gig, with 3. something gig used on each drive.
Also, it wants to keep running scandisk on the two drives (D, and E)

I hope that I can at least re-format this 30 gig, and reload everything and it will act oK.

Anyway this post is too long noone will read it if I keep going.

Thanks for your replies......

any Idea's on what I just explained???

Regards,

Rick Z.

Well,
The cmos error has gone away for good (it seems)
The drive, although I wasn't able to retrieve any data,
is all set also, I just D/L 'd the drive utility from Maxtor, and it is up and running.
Pretty smooth too.
Thanks all,
Rick z
