windows xp resolution ?

Hi

My friend just received a compaq computer running XP, with
a 17 inch monitor.

When she turns on the computer and it loads to her
desktop, the desktop display is only showing what would
amout to a 15 inch monitor.

I would like to enlarge this to fit the 17 inch monitor
but cannot seem to find our where to do this.

Any help would be appreciated, Thanks

RTM - that's "Read the Manual" the one for the monitor? Or you can
play around with the sizing buttons/options on the monitor, they are
usually self intuitive.

Have you tried the monitor's controls? You know, the buttons on your
monitor?

We have adjusted the monitor buttone that helped a little
but did not correct the problem.

Read the monitor manual. There is a default, or "natural",
resolution for which the monitor has been designed, e.g.,
1280 x 1024. Similarly, set up the same resolution, if it
is available, for the video adapter, and also the proper
monitor refresh frequency. It may also be helpful and
install the *.inf file for the monitor.

Right click on the desktop and then Properties.
Click the Settings tab.
Then select the resolution you want.

What is the make and model of the monitor?

Open Control Panel - Display - Settings - Advanced - Monitor. Is the
correct make and model of monitor shown there?

If not go to the manufacturer's web site and download their monitor
driver utility for your specific model of monitor and install it.
That may help.
