"Last month, an industry analyst mentioned the Treo 610 in a research
note, giving the first hard evidence of the existence of this model."

This makes the Treo 610 "Rumorware" as no one as seen one.
This differs from "Vaporware", where a company announces a
new model, but it isn't available yet. The Treo 610
has not even been officially announced by Palm One.

but it sure sounds interesting.

+ Add Blue Tooth
+ Higher Resolution Screen
+ More memory
+ No camera ?

as compared with the Treo 600.

Would it be a good thing if the ''rumored'' 610 ommited a VGA camera?

The camera has generally been considered of poor quality, and omitting
it may keep the cost in line. YMMV

the 'poor quality' bad rap is mostly due to the default image compression
setting (surely some marketing droid's dumb idea) which is 'squeeze these
pictures into a dozen bits.' there is a free utility called 'qset'
(you can find a link to it in the http://www.treocentral.com/ discussion
archives) that lets you adjust the jpeg image compression factor. ratcheting
it up a bit (driving the image size from 20-30K to 60-70K) makes a huge
difference in quality. live and learn.

The lack of a Flash also contributes to the bad rap.

The existance of the qset utility is good useful piece of information.

It may be too late as apparently Palm is definately planning on a Treo
"600" sans camera. Whether its a variant of the 600, the 610, or a
variant of the 610 is unclear.
