What is relationship between FSB and Chipset?

I've been seeing a lot of stuff around about the via chipsets. They are marketed as 266, 333, and 400. Why are they labled as this way? THere always seems to be a model of ram associated with these chipsets as well. For instance pc 2400 for the 266 and so on. I know that the ram is rated for its maximum tested frequency PC2400= 150 fsb, but does the chipset have a similar rating? My bios will let me increase the frequency all the way to 200 mhz. That would seem to coorespond to a chipset model KT-400. Feeling confused...
