Quick question, anyone here have a preference between the Pentium 4 DDR chipsets? (not the crap Via p4x ones). Building a DDR system for a friend, overclocking with a 2.26 (getting it cheap) Corsair Pc-3200 DDR and an Abit Bd7II-RAID (i845e).

Soon enough, Intel will make the i845s...imagine dual channel Sdram...*shudder*

Without hesitation the SiS 648.

I'm waiting for 845PE to be released this October 7. It officially supports DDR333. Although 845G also supports DDR333 unofficially. I prefer to wait for 845PE because it also has support for hyperthreading in the soon to be released Pentium 4 3.06 Ghz.

I also like the Intel E7205 "Granite Bay" chipset to be released before the end of this year. It will support dual channel DDR266 but it will be expensive and requires two DDRs for dual channel to work.

Maybe by that time the 850E will be less expensive but that chipset has no support for hyperthreading.

There's also soon to be released SiS 655 with support for dual channel DDR333. But I think it is overkill since Pentium 4 now only runs at 533 MHz FSB. Prescott which runs at 667 MHz might seem a good pair for SiS 655 but Intel plans to release the Springdale chipset just for the Prescott.

Uhm, great, I sorta need to build the computer NOW, with the chipsets available. Work with me here. I'm talking the best of the single channel DDR chipsets. Anyway, some of the chipsets "unofficially" support DDR (good enough) 333.

AGP 8x is useless, I don't need the onboard graphics, so i'm thinking i845e

I recently bought a Gigabyte GA-81gx 845g mobo and had probs trying to run ddr 333 ram on it. I exchanged it for a Gigabyte GA-8sg667 sis648 mobo and have had no probs running ddr 333 memory. The manual actually states 4 types of ddr 400 memory it can handle.

Go for the sis648 as it officially supports 333 memory.
