I have just purchased a "new to me" computer which has Windows XP installed.
I havce had the files from my old computer (it has windows 2000) now i cannot
open my Excel documents. If you could let me know what I can do to solve this
please email me at brianval@sasktel.net
Thanks

You must have Microsoft Works or Microsoft Office to open Excel workbooks.
Alternatively try OpenOffice or one of the other freeware office suites but
be prepared for some loss of editing features.

So what did you use on your old computer to view .xls files? Did you
have Excel installed? Does the old computer still exist with Excel
installed on it so it precludes you from installing Excel on your new
computer (i.e., you only have 1 license and it is inuse)? You could go
to http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/ to search under Excel for its
viewer to see if it lets you view your .xls files?

Not exactly the sharpest knife in the drawer, are we...? Let's see, you need
to open an *EXCEL* file....think about it...it shouldn't tax your braincell
too much...

Well dimwit, you don't even have any knives in your drawer. You can open
Excel files with Open Office for one.

If you already installed MS excel and still can't open your file, it might be damaged by some reason. If necessary, you may try Advanced Excel Repair at http://www.datanumen.com/aer/ This tool is rather useful in salvaging damaged Excel xls files. Hope this is useful.
