hi,i'm new to this site and i found it to be very helpfull in all areas.
i have installed winxp recently (legitimate copy came along with buying a new pc) and i have this problem.
when i open the windows task manager there is always this "System Idle Process" into the Processes catalog.when
i try to delete it cause its hogging down my whole pc it brings up a message saying "the operation cannot be completed" the operation is not valid for this process"
and since its delaying my whole pc down i'd like to get rid
of this.any ideas or anyone who knows how to?
thanks in advance.

You cannot delete this process ... and actually, it should not be causing any system delays.

A quote from Black Viper:

This is a generic process that is used when no other program or process is requiring CPU resources. It is not a bad thing if it is using 99% of your CPU! This process is a 16k loop that the CPU processes while it is not doing "anything" else. If your computer is called upon to do any other task than nothing, the idle process allows that to happen and the % used will decrease accordingly. You can not disable the idle process. If it is using 97% CPU, which only means that the other 3% is used by real programs. If your idle process is constantly at a low rate (for example, 3%) something else, an application or process is using the CPU.
A Microsoft quote:

Windows NT4/2000/XP/2003 only. This is a process which runs on each CPU in your PC/Server and whose sole purpose is to total up the amount of time when the processor is not doing anything. In Task Manager (Task List) this process usually accounts for the majority of processor time.

Recommendation :
An integral part of the operating system, leave alone.
