Just wondering which of these boards I should go with. The only really significant difference I can see is that the P4T533 has only 2 RAM slots while the P4T533-C has 4. I think the P4T533-C has an onboard NIC and the P4T533 has a variable fan control.....either feature would be nice, but it doesn't help me make up my mind.

Incidently, ASUS claims that both boards support up to 2 GB of PC1066 RDRAM but I have yet to hear of anyone making RDRAM in sticks larger than 512 MB. So unless they're banking on someone making 1 GB sticks in the future (doubtful with RAMBUS's current woes) I don't see how you could get 2 GB of memory into the P4T533.

All comments are appreciated, thanks.

If ya want onboard IDE RAID, then go with the P4T533. Note that the P4T533 uses 32-bit rambus memory which means that memory does not have to be installed in pairs. One benefit of this is that you can boot with one stick of ram. Also note that the P4T533-C uses 16-bit rambus memory which means that its ram must be installed in pairs. The only reason I would choose the P4T533-C over the P4T533 is if i needed more than 512MB of RAM as 32-bit 512MB Rambus memory modules are not yet available. The fact that the P4T533 doesn't have onboard LAN doesn't bother me, just buy a PCI LAN card.

No, the P4T533 supports the new RIMM4200 standard, which has the same chips as two PC1066 modules. The P4T533-C uses PC1066 in pairs. Having both (one pair) channels on one module gives RIMM4200 a slight latency advantage (due to the shorter paths), but the only company I know of that produces it is Samsung. And Samsung uses 35ns chips, while Kingston uses 32ns. So Kingston PC1066 overclocks better than Samsung PC1066 and should overclock better than Samsung RIMM4200.

The RAID controller and the Q-fan on the P4T533 are nice, but I would like to be able to put at least a GB of RDRAM in this machine at some point, so right now I'm leaning towards the P4T533-C.

Any other comments?

Right now I don't plan on overclocking my ram and I would rather worry about getting my system setup with raid than worrying about getting 1 gig of ram. I guess it depends on the applications you are using.

At first I thought they had 512meg 4200 memory sticks but it looks like Samsung only has 256meg sticks. :( 512 should be good enough for me I suppose. I don't know how much of a difference there is b/w win2k and XP in their memory handling. I remember reading something like XP will use as much ram as it can get so...I say that b/c now I am using win2kpro.
