I recently found a good deal on a wireless accesspoint/cable router. It is 802.11b compatible. My question is will my D-Link wireless card interface with the Linksys wireless equipment we have installed at school, or will each company's hardware only work with itself? I assume that 802.11b is a standard protocol that will work with any such capable device, but I have no first hand experience to confirm this. Thanks.

the different vendors will interoperate. 802.11b is 802.11b

It's always the one thing you never suspected.
