ok for some odd reason my counter strike source doesnt want to open? it says launching but than the window just closes and nothing happens...i keep repeating this and nothing...can any give me more info on what might be causing this?
I had that happen once -- I cleared it up by uninstalling/reinstalling the game. I think the game cache got corrupted or something like that.
i did everything possible. first i thought it was my gpu since i was messing with it. i reinstalled the new driver and nothing happen. i uninstall steam and reinstalled it same thing nothing. i bought a new account for CS:S and now i know its not my account...since under the new account it still does the same thing. what else is there. ????
ok well not much concern from anyone but that one post...thnx for your help...just in case anybody else has this problem... which might not be same situation, but just FYI i had to reboot my comp not recommended. it deleted everything i had...erased all my picture i had and files (yes i know rebooting causes that). but hey at least the game worked after i rebooted. i tried everthing possible like uninstall/reinstall, restore, updated driver and nothing. had to reboot and finally worked. well thnx for the help to that one repl..lol.
I suspect you're not talking about "rebooting", which is a harmless activity that you should do at least once a week anyways just to keep things running smoothly.
Are you instead referring to "reinstalling windows" or "reformatting your harddrive"? In both instances it is recommended you backup all the information that you want to retain afterwards, in the case of reformatting drives, this is mandatory (if you want to hold on to the information, that is).
I had this problem to, if you have an nvidia 8 series card. Then i might know the solution. For me only the 158.27 driver works from guru3d. With al the other drivers i can't boot up any source game :S
It was probably your anti virus firewall. That happens to me everytime I reformat my computer and reinstall Counter Strike Source. Next time reconfigure your firewall to "allow all" or "permit all" for steam and half life 2.
Recently an update to either steam or Norton anti-virus caused Norton to think that steam games were trojan viruses or some such. I contacted Valve with this problem and they had notified the Norton people and said it would be fixed in a few days. Until then I was supposed to disable the anti-virus software when I wanted to play. A few days later I updated my anti-virus software and everything works properly again.
