I just got my first Verizon phone last week and today found out my
sister's family got three Verizon phones at about the same time.
According to the current verizonwireless.com web page, the America's
Choice plan has a promotion of free In-Network calling. I don't recall
whether that was in effect a week ago or not. How would I tell if that
feature is on my contract? Does anyone remember whether that's a new
promotion or not?
If it costs extra I probably wouldn't do it since I don't use that
many minutes talking to my sister most months. But it would be cool if
it were free. I rather think that's a just-added promotion since I
seem to recall it being a $10/month additional charge when I was
shopping around.

if you ahve a plan over 39.99 a month you have it.
All this includes 400 anytime minutes to use however you want when you sign
up on America's Choicesm calling plan $39.99 monthly access or higher. 1- or
2-year Customer Agreement required
If you are an existing customer you can add IN-Network Calling to your
account by calling 1.800.2 JOIN IN.
i called a few months ago and it was free for me and didnt extend my
contract.

Brent, the $10/month additional charge would be your sister's option. Her
primary phone would be able to talk to any other Verizon phone for free, but
without opting for the $10 fee, the shared lines would only be able to talk
to the other family members for free, but not with other Verizon phones.

As soon as I read your message, I immediately called the number you provided
and they informed me that it *would* extend my contract if I added the
IN-Network Calling.

Call again and try another CS rep. I got a new account in Dec and called a
couple months ago after the promotion came out. They added it for no charge
and it did not extend my contract.

They "claimed" that because I was on another "promotion" that if I got the
IN-Network Calling that it would extend my contract.

For kicks and giggles, I called back and spoke with another rep. The story
is the same,.... because it is a "new promotion", it *will* extend my
contract if I wanted to get IN-Network Calling.

So how new is it? Was it already in effect a week ago when I signed up
or is it literally new in the last couple of days?

I don't know exactly when it started, but it seems like it has been around
at least 2-3 months, maybe more. If your plan is $39.99 or higher, then you
already have it, or at least you should.

THe other lines CAN taklk for free just not unlimited. I believe they are
limited to either 500 or 1000 mins. Can't remember which while the primary
has unlimited.

Watch out about a detail - the unlimited calling is only for the main
phone and calls from other phones in your contract to your main phone. The
extra phones can get unlimited calling top any verizon customer for an
extra fee.

Larry, prior to this promo, there was an option for the additional lines to
share a bucket of 1000 M2M minutes. This is no longer available (at least
not in my billing area).

Thanks for the clarification. I just have a single Verizon phone but
the point you're making does apply to my sister's family plan.

Thanks, Bert. I've noticed that when I look up my airtimes on the
verizonwireless.com web site the call to my sister shows up as
In-Network minutes. Sounds like those won't count against my 400.
Sweet.

Check the thread Family Plan Question...
Please correct me if I'm wrong in my reading of the Verizon web page
regarding America's Choice, Family plan:
1. Plan costs $39.95 for 400 shareable minutes (web page promo).
2. The Main Phone has free unlimited "In Network" and "Nights and Weekend"
calling that doesn't dip into the 400 shareable minutes.
3. The Satelite Phones have free unlimited "In Network" calling to each
other or to the Main phone and to anyone during "Nights and Weekends" but
any other "In Network" or non "In Network" calls come from shareable
minutes.
4. For an additional $10 per account, not per line, the Satellite phones can
have free unlimited "In Network" as well as "Nights and Weekends" calling.
Soooo, excluding activation fees etc., for a Main phone and two (2)
Satellite Phones, the monthly cost to have items 1 thru 3 available would be
$39.95+20+20=79.95 per month.
To add item 4 would be an additional $10/month or 89.95 per month.
Am I correct?? Thanks.

This post and the responses puzzle me: if the plan is less than 30
days old, can't it be changed anyway, and even if it did extend the
term of the plan, if it's only a week or so, WTF?
In my service area, all recent plans have had some kind of m2m
anyway. What am I missing; in either case m2m minutes IMHO are the
best bargain, right after the unlimited N&W.

Actually I'm not the one that mentioned something about extending the
contract. As you point out, that would be a moot point for me. I was
just wondering whether it had been included when I signed up or if it
was necessary for me to make arrangements to receive it. As it turns
out I got my paperwork in the mail from Verizon yesterday and it is
indeed included in my AC400 plan.
>In my service area, all recent plans have had some kind of m2m

When I bought the phone, no one I ever call was on Verizon. It was a
a coincidence that a couple days later my sister happened to get three
Verizon phones without even having talked to me. That makes the
In-Network a good deal for me now but it never even crossed my mind
when I was shopping.
I don't use Nights and Weekends minutes any more or less than other
minutes. So having Saturday and Sunday free is pretty like turning my
400 minutes into 500-something. If there were no N&W I would probably
be tempted to have a 500 minute plan so that makes it worth about
$10/month to me.

I think you are right--it's just a matter of getting the right plan
for you, personally, and everyone is different--but the more you can
use the N&W and m2m stuff, the better the bargain it is---with these
features, it is almost pointless to use regular long distance--and as
on another post, you can even use cellular call forwarding to further
utilize the free long distance included with the cell minutes, etc.
