I just built a AMD XP 2000+ machine with MSI KT3 Ultra 2 (KT 333) motherboard... Everything checks out and works perfectly EXCEPT when I go to shutdown in Windows 2000 Pro, I get the "You can safely power down message" rather than having the system do its own soft power-off.
I've checked all the power saver settings in the BIOS and in Windows... I even flashed the BIOS to the latest version and loaded the default settings-- no change. Any ideas what might be causing this behavior? I've built several machines with VIA chipsets in recent months... none have this particular quirk.
