i was reading thg and i saw the Gigabyte GA-8IGXP listed in the article on the 845G mobo's. i then went to newegg and look for it and the only thing i saw was the GA-8IGX. i also went to gigabyte's web site and fond the same thing. can anyone tell me what's going on. is the GA-8IGXP a newer version and is the other one a new version? i looked at thg picture of the mobo and it did say GA-8IGXP on the mobo itself.

i appreciate any help along these lines. the mobo (GA-8IGX) is only $104 at newegg.

GA-8IGXP is the top of line of the GA-8IG series.
Basically it is same as GA-8IGX but with additional onboard RAID and IEEE1394. Unfortunately, GA-8IGXP is available in only a few selected regions, eg. China. Here is URL link to the product... in Chinese language, too bad :frown:

Dear Sir,

8IGXP is only a test model for media. We are sorry to tell it's not
going to release due to the business issue.
However, we still got other good M/B as the link
http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/products/products.htm
The similar function such as IEEE 1394, please refer to 8IEXP

*******Thank you for supporting Gigabyte products********

Subject: Where is GA-8IGXP ???

Hello,

I have read some nice article about tests of MB's on Tom's Hardware
Guide. I wanted to find some more info about GA-8IGXP
http://www.tomshardware.com/mainboard/02q3/020722/intel845g-08.html

But I can't find any link to this product on any of your websites!!!
(Only about less featured GA-8IGX) Did you disconnect this nice GA-8IGXP
product???

Thank you for Your answer.
Jozef.

Interestingly, THG issued part II of it's 845G review. In it, he mentions that many people emailed THG asking about the 8IGXP. He contacted Gigabyte who said that the 8IGXP was a "test board" but added that Gigabyte was going to release an "8IGXP - like" board... sometime, whenever that is. The way I figure it, it would be foolish of them to release a GXP when they just released the HXP. The cost would be nearly identical, so no one would buy the HXP anymore. What an inventory nightmare it would be for them. So here's my suggestion: everybody, do NOT buy the HXP board no matter what. When it becomes unpopular compared to other 845G boards, maybe you'll see a GXP come out on the market (then again, maybe that's already happening, and they have a huge inventory of HXP's to sell before considering the GXP - damned if you do, and damned if you don't, I guess).

Kill a man, you're a murderer. Kill ten thousand, you're a statesman.

I've done searches for all of the top mobo's in that article and I can't seem to find any of them for sale. Why in the world would THG even bother to review and rate them if we can't buy them? I can understand if it's something that will be coming out soon, but it kind of ticks me off to see that and search high and low for them only to discover the damn things don't exist and won't ever. At the very least indicate that in the review so we don't waste our time searching. I looked for the Asus, Soltek and Gigabyte mobos. I found the Soltek ( I think) but it only said it supported 266 DDR. If the mobos don't formally support DDR333 then say it! I don't want to search for them only to be confused.

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the work and the reviews, but don't tease me until I'm all wet and then leave me out to dry without any info about what's really available.
