Right, what’s happening here?

Is there something about a big company that likes ripping us British people off, I mean come on! First of all why is the PS3 now going to sell in the states for $499 (£249) but when it comes to the Britain/Europe we are going to still have to pay $798 (£399) and that’s not coming down in the price cut the yanks are getting, that’s US only thing. Britain is still going to have to pay the same as it did 5 months ago.

On top of that we are getting charged twice as much for Windows Vista as it is selling for in the states. If Windows Vista costs $100 in the states it will cost £100 ($200) in the UK… does that not seem a tad unfair? Should there not be a fair trade commission looking at this or is it perfectly legal to single countries out and charge them what the hell they want?

Anyone else got an opinion on this?

Sounds like bullsh1t, man. Bittorrent is your friend then. And hey, why waste money on the PS3? I can't see the system's draw except for Sony fans. If you want Blu-Ray, ok I suppose; but otherwise you might as well get a Wii or a X360, or build a high-end PC.

Do you think that? You should be glad you live in place where those things are cheap. Do you know how much a PS3 costs in Brazil? From 1000 to 1700 dollars. Windows Vista Ultimate? 500 Dollars, and that is cheap. 8800 GTX? 1200 Dollars. Raptor 150 gigs? 550 dollars. And Brazilian people don't get paychecks in pounds. I hate it, but our governments thinks that it's the best for us.

I always thought that the pricing difference was the company passing on some import tarrifs and costs of some other govermental red tape concerning mass import/distribution there. Will have to look a bit closer.

Here in the US companies can import huge quantites of just about any product without much govermantal interferrance (so it seems).

Yea its simple get together with a bunch of your friends overthrow that ridiculous government and lower the input tariffs and there you go prices should come down a bit. geez you figured after December 16 people would have learned.

Or you can move to the USA, but do it illegally so you'll become a citizen faster

As arthurjose said the pay checks are different, we in the UK have a very high cost of living but that's reflected by our higher salaries. That's why immigrants come here because 10000pounds can buy them a hell of a lot more in their home country. This has been going on for years and it's nothing new. It won't change anytime soon either. The reason for this is our high currency, the country has a trade deficit (or surplus, not sure which way around as it's a while since I studied economics) and the pound's value is far higher.

There is a plus side though, we can buy products from other country for far less, a PS3 is around half the price we would normally pay in say the US, the downside being electronics companies have cottoned on and created regions; PAL, NTSC. Other than that enjoy any other product you like at discounted foreign rates. Except for guitars (high import tax), cars (wrong side steering), electronics (wrong plugs), fruit (quarantine restrictions), TV shows (awful :P).

The pound is stronger than the dollar basically. If i went to USA now and took my GBP i could afford twice as much than here (in england) as the economy is stronger. I dont understand this things at all really but i think thats whats going on. Maybe its the other way round...i dunno heh.

The UK version is also a cut down one to the US and rest of the world.

Bill Gates and MS want to own the world and the dont like to change the #'s on their price tags, so dollars or pounds they dont care, as long as its 100 for Vista. :kaola:

I'm not really sure why they are overpricing it over there in the UK, its probably because your pound is double us dollars and companies see that as a opportunity to make double profits. Thats just my 2 cents
